The first of three Web 2.0 conferences with Polly!

Learn what RSS is and how it can help you keep up to date on your favorite blogs, news headlines, database searches and more. You’ll learn to use a feed reader to pull lots of RSS content into one web screen for fast, easy reading. And we’ll look at how libraries are using RSS feeds to push library information out to their patrons (new books, events, news, journal tables of contents and more).

We’ll also take a close look at del.icio.us, a bookmarking service that lets you organize and store your favorite web sites online. You can also access other people’s bookmarks and share your bookmarks with others, making this an information treasure trove. RSS feeds from del.icio.us help you put your annotated lists of bookmarks on other web pages. This deceivingly simple site packs quite a wallop on the information landscape!

Topics include:

  • RSS basics and news feeds.
  • Using feed reader software (bloglines).
  • Setting up a del.icio.us account.
  • Creating RSS feeds & tools to add to your web page.
  • How to use these tools in the library & teach them to your patrons.
