Searching Tips & Tricks
Searching Tips and Tricks covers basic techniques and shortcuts for finding bibliographic records in WorldCat using the OCLC Connexion interface. Online demonstration will be done in the Connexion Client, but an orientation to the same techniques in the Connexion Browser will be included.
Topics covered will include: an introduction to WorldCat in Connexion searching concepts, including index labels, search syntax, viewing records and holdings, and system navigation.
At the end of this class you will be able to:
- Find records in WorldCat using a variety of search techniques, including:
- Word searches
- Phrase searches
- Numeric searches
- Limiting searches using material types, languages and years
- Navigate search results, including:
- Viewing list and navigating lists.
- Working with Client and Windows displays to maximize your desktop view of search results.
- Viewing associated holdings and other records.
- Customize the toolbar and the WorldCat search window to streamline your work.
Who Should Attend: Anyone wishing to improve their WorldCat searching technique.

Prerequisite: Basic familiarity with either the Connexion Client or the Connexion Browser.
