Metadata: MARC and Dublin Core

This class focuses on the structure and use of two widely-used metadata schemes: MARC and Dublin Core. Topics covered include: general MARC structure and the eight bibliographic formats, DC elements (both Simple and Qualified), encoding guidelines, and crosswalks.

In this hands-on class you will work in a variety of MARC bibliographic formats and in the Dublin Core element set, use crosswalks to translate data between the schemes, and view examples of practical applications.

Who should attend: Anyone currently using MARC or Dublin Core records and/or those interested in learning about applications of these widely used schemes.

Prerequisite: Metadata: The Basics, or experience coding in MARC or Dublin Core.
