OCLC FirstSearch: The Administrative Module

There is no need to be intimidated by the FirstSearch Administrative Module. The “Admin Module” comes with every FirstSearch account, is web-based and is definitely librarian friendly. Learn how to use the Admin Module to maximize your FirstSearch reference end-user account.
Topics will include:
- Customizing the FirstSearch search interface.
- Linking from FirstSearch.
- Optimizing the functionality of your FirstSearch end-user account.
After taking this class you will be able to:
- Enter or change IP-addresses in FirstSearch, effective immediately.
- Set up OpenURL linking in FirstSearch.
- Prompt FirstSearch to conduct ISBN or ISSN searching of your OPAC.
- Direct FirstSearch to send an automatic “Searches are getting low” email.
- Set a default search screen or database.
- Turn databases off and on.
- Determine how many Per-Search searches remain in your FirstSearch end-user account.
Who Should Attend: Reference and other public service librarians.
Prerequisite: Some familiarity with the FirstSearch service is recommended.
