FRBR for Everyone

Online Webinar

FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) is a 1998 recommendation of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) to restructure catalog databases to reflect the conceptual structure of information resources. The FRBR model organizes the display of bibliographic information into hierarchical groups based on the relationships: work - expression - manifestation - item. FRBR will make searching easier for patrons, simplify ILL, and transform online catalogs including OCLC's WorldCat.

This online presentation and demonstration provides an overview of the FRBR model and some current applications.

In this class you will learn about:

  • FRBR groups and entities.
  • Catalogs that have implemented FRBR.
  • FRBR's future influence.

Please Note: This will be an online webinar, not a hands-on training class. All that is needed to attend is a computer with Internet access with a nearby phone for audio access. This presentation will run for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Who should attend: Anyone interested in cataloging, interlibrary loan, or catalog design.

Prerequisite: None.
