Accessible Archives: EAD

Would you like to provide web access to your institution’s archives or special collections? Do you have paper finding aids for your archives or collections that you would like to digitize? Are you assembling an archives and want to know how to build a finding aid?

Learn the basics of creating digital finding aids for your archival collections with the Encoded Archival Description (EAD) which is an XML standard for encoding archival finding aids, maintained by the Library of Congress in partnership with the Society of American Archivists.

Please note: This will be an online webinar, not a hands-on training class. All that is needed to attend is a computer with Internet access with a nearby phone for audio access. This presentation will run for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

After taking this class you will know about:

  • Parts of an EAD record.
  • The EAD tag library.
  • Steps to implementing EAD.
  • Best practices.
  • Crosswalks.

Who Should Attend: Anyone interested in learning more about metadata standards for archival materials.

Prerequisite: Familiarity with MARC or Dublin Core.
