OCLC Direct Request: Letting the Patron
and the System Do More of the Work
ILL Direct Request is a service that facilitates unmediated interlibrary loan. With Direct Request, ILL requests are created from an external source, such as FirstSearch and then sent to the OCLC Interlibrary Loan service. Online profiles (filters) let you control the process and decide which requests are sent directly to potential lenders and which request are sent to your review file. This workshop will provide you with knowledge you can use to begin using ILL Direct Request from FirstSearch.
In this webinar you will learn how to:
- Activate the FirstSearch ILL link.
- Edit the patron ILL request form.
- Create constant data & custom holdings.
- Create direct request profiles.
- Create ILL requests using WorldCat from FirstSearch.
Please note: This workshop is being presented using web-based conferencing software. By utilizing and a toll free conference call, you can attend this class without leaving your library. All you need to attend is a connection to the Internet, a web browser, and a telephone.
Who Should Attend: ILL staff interested in streamlining their workflow.
Prerequisite: OCLC WorldCat Resource Sharing Basics and/or equivalent knowledge of OCLC ILL. Experience with Custom Holdings, Constant Data, and a basic familiarity with FirstSearch are recommended. This workshop is intended for experienced users of OCLC Interlibrary Loan
