Online Workshop

In this workshop, you will learn introductory skills, concepts and ways of thinking that provide a basic understanding of relational databases and database design; a set of basic database design and usage skills; the ability to use databases productively; and the ability to continue to learn about databases on your own.

In this workshop, we'll cover the following topics:

• What is a database?
• The history of databases
• Relational databases
• Database structure
• Database design
• Creating and using a database using Microsoft Access
• Databases in the library

Requirements: To fully participate in this workshop, you will need Microsoft Access 2000, or at the very least Microsoft Access 97. Examples will be from Access 2000. You will also need the Access 2000 Northwind Traders sample database that comes with Microsoft Access. If you don't have the Northwind database, it can be downloaded from the Microsoft site at http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/Nwind2K.aspx.
