“Own…”
“Loan…”
“No…”
Were the chants Lauren Pinsley suggested we could use at the Zen and the Art of Local Holdings Maintenance summit held yesterday. We had a great turn out for this first time event. In the morning there were a variety of speakers and after a yummy lunch we gathered into groups to discuss topics of interest. Check out our wiki at: http://lhzen2008.pbwiki.com/ to see the notes from each round table discussion.
Greetings on this Friday the 13th,
Just a quick post before Ann and I hit the road back to Albany (on another gorgeous day!)
We had a wonderful time here at SUNYLA – great presentations, food, activities and – most of all – people. It was great chatting and meeting so many people (this was my first SUNYLA, whereas Ann is a veteran).
This picture is of the keynote from Thursday – where Dr. Joe Janes (he’s the guy on the huge screen) talked with SUNYLA participants from the University of Washington). It was a great use of Internet 2 – it really seemed like he was (almost) in the auditorium. In the picture he’s taking a question from an attendee. His presentation was “What To Do Now (and Why).”
Best, Meredith
Hello,
Ann and I were at the Northern New York Library Network (http://www.nnyln.org/) on Tuesday (6/10) where we had a Brown Bag lunch to discuss getting Web 2.0 projects going.
There were four great participants (in addition to Ann and I) and the conversation never flagged for almost two hours – even when we lost power for a minute! We shared a lot of great material and ideas, below is a list of sites we talked about and visited.

Hello – Ann and I are at SUNYLA in Potsdam, NY. Stop by our booth if you’re up here – we have prime real estate, right across from the breakfast/snack table, I’m loving the coffee.
SUNYLA has a lot of great resources up on the web – you probably want to check them out even if you couldn’t make it to the beautiful North Country.
The conference has a:
After the rather scary storms on Tuesday, the weather has been gorgeous up there – sunny, mild, with a nice breeze; so maybe we’ll see you around the conference.
Best,
Meredith
We’d like to share just a few of the terrific savings realized by libraries that participate in Nylink’s FirstSearch groups. The groups were created by, and continued to be supported and maintained by, Nylink staff, in response to the needs of New York libraries.
- MLA International Bibliography, 16 libraries, savings 29% – 41% off national OCLC pricing
- GeoRefS, 11 libraries, savings 17% – 29% off national
- WorldCat only, 29 academic and community college libraries, savings 7.75% off national
- Base Package, 33 libraries, savings 17% – 70% off national
- OCLC Collection, 35 libraries, savings 16% – 78% off national
- Wilson SelectPlus, 11 academic and community college libraries, savings 59% – 65% off national
The examples above are just a few of the ways in which Nylink saves money for libraries.
