Finally get through that cataloging backlog?

This event is free and open to anyone interested in talking, listening and learning.

Happy Holidays to All!
Check out this year’s Holiday Card fron OCLC Programs and Research:
http://www.oclc.org/research/holidaycard/2007/index.html
The card shows off a new technology from Adobe called Flex (see http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flex/ ), as well as several new recently released projects of OCLC Research, including:
WorldCat.org ( http://worldcat.org )
WorldCat Identities ( http://www.oclc.org/news/briefs/brief166.htm and http://orlabs.oclc.org/Identities/ )
Dewey Browser (http://www.oclc.org/research/researchworks/ddc/browser.htm )
On the holiday card, you can interact with a tag cloud which will display statistical results in a pie chart (and if you click on a pieces of the pie chart — it will cause displays of queries into WorldCat.org, WorldCat Identities, and Dewey Browser to appear).
If you have never explored the projects of OCLC Research, check out their website, at: http://www.oclc.org/research/default.htm and the project page, at: http://www.oclc.org/research/projects/default.htm
Happy Holidays!!
Time is running out for the Early Bird special for the East Region Shared eBook Collection! After Decemeber 15th, the cost per FTE (or equilivent) will increase $0.10. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but $0.10 added up quickly!
Are you interested in the latest regarding Online learning trends and ideas? There was a GREAT two-part series on NPR about Online learning last week. The title of the program was:
Online Courses Catch On in U.S. Colleges
Here is the link to the program
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16638700
Some highlights from the program:
“Online education is growing at many times the rate of higher education overall, according to a new survey. In the past, some prestigious schools have looked down on distance learning, fearing the quality could never measure up. But now some colleges require that students take at least one course online.”…….One student said he “misses the give-and-take of a traditional classroom”…. “But an advantage with online stuff is that because people have to type, you have to think more about what you say before you say it. So you usually end up with a lot more intelligent conversation,” the student said.
Check out the program for more information on Online learning.
