Upcoming Conferences 2010

Below are a few conferences that are coming up in the spring.  There is a wide range of events out there.  Why not attend a conference that is outside your usual milieu?  It is a great opportunity to make new contacts and possibly create exciting new collaborations!

Conference on New York State History

The program and registration for the 31st Conference on New York State History at Ithaca College on June 3-5 are now available.

Some of the more than four dozen refereed papers, workshops, and forums that may be of particular interest to librarians include a workshop on engaging students with community history, a forum on digital research, and the keynote Tripp lecture, “How Historical Enterprise in New York State Became Fractured (and sometimes dysfunctional) in the Twentieth Century” by Michael Kammen of Cornell University.

Museums in Conversation:  What Inspires You?

The Museum Association of New York and the Upstate History Alliance annual meeting Museums in Conversation:  What Inspires You? is taking place in Albany, April 11-13.  This is a great opportunity to meet people from all types of institutions including museums, historical societies, special collections and archives from across New York State.  This year’s conversation will focus on building better missions and visions to better serve our communities.  Register Now!

Academic Librarians 2010

Registration is now open for Academic Librarians 2010:  Faster Than the Speed of Bytes: Technology,  Cognition and the Academic Librarian. This conference is taking place June 7 & 8, in Ithaca.

Are we organically shaped by technology?  If so, how can academic librarians respond?  How do cognitive changes influence the way that we lead our libraries and teach our users?  This conference will explore changes in cognitive development based on new models of interacting with information and how these new models will impact collections and services.  Participants will examine what this means for academic librarians and the way they interact with users.  This event is brought to you by the NY 3Rs Association and the Academic and Special Libraries Section of NYLA.
